Biosecurity & Ecology
Biosecurity is a high priority for New Zealand due to the unique cultural and ecological value of our ecosystems and the ever-increasing, pre-border threats of exotic pests and diseases to the connectivity of the landscape, to our biodiversity, and to tourism.
We are a team of biosecurity specialists with experience and expertise in design, management and research relating to small- and large-scale biosecurity responses, and we have worked extensively on kauri dieback disease, Queensland fruit fly and myrtle rust, undertaking surveillance, mapping, treatment, and liaising with landowners.
We have the capability, capacity, experience, expertise and infrastructure to deliver robust, reliable biosecurity operational management services that support Biosecurity New Zealand’s readiness, response and long-term management programmes and our national biosecurity system.
Our comprehensive networks enable us to tap into a deep pool of resources for any biosecurity response, and we offer a diverse range of adaptable skills. We are also experts in biosecurity hygiene requirements and have rich knowledge of both native species, and the pests and pathogens that pose a threat.
We are innovators, and collaborators – guided by best practice, research and innovation and committed to working in collaboration to develop new ways to counter these threats and to deliver results.
