Pest Plants

Research Pests

Auckland holds the dubious title of one of the world’s weediest cities.  Invasive species like moth plant, climbing asparagus and wild ginger outcompete our native plant species, reduce our biodiversity and remove food sources and habitat for native birds, animals and insects.

At BioSense our experience in monitoring and managing pest plants can tell landowners what pest plants are on their land, what impact that is having and provide recommendations and tools to get results.

We conduct surveillance to gather data and establish pest plant presence and absence, density and impact, and make management recommendations based on our findings – including whether biological control is an option.  Our team will also survey the good stuff, noting the presence of any native plant species on the landscape that may be able to thrive in the absence of weeds. We also undertake the control of pest plants via robust, best practice methods.

With an experienced core team and a range of specialised contractors to call on, BioSense can take on small and large-scale projects.  We have a robust infrastructure in place and experience across a range of landscapes including native forest and private land, and harder to reach places like rough terrain, cliff faces and the forest canopy.

Where pest plants are removed, restoration is often the goal.  BioSense can also offer advice on how best to restore the newly clear landscape to encourage native biodiversity and prevent reinvasion from pest plants.

We are guided by best practice, research and innovation and will employ the most effective and efficient surveillance and control methods for each custom site.

We will plan, execute and manage every aspect of your project to meet your needs and keep you informed at every step, working with you to get the best results.
