Biosecurity & Ecology
Living Tree delivers habitat creation and tree veteranisation to enhance biodiversity while maintaining tree safety, structure, and site requirements.
Natural hollows are increasingly rare in NZ due to development and tree removal. We use specialist arboricultural techniques to create and enhance habitat features in both native and exotic trees, retaining ecological value where natural processes are limited.
Tree Veteranisation
Techniques such as coronet cuts, fracture pruning, and crown reductions to mimic natural ageing, create deadwood habitat, and encourage hollows while keeping trees safe and alive.
Habitat & Roost Creation
Custom-designed hollows formed in trunks or large limbs, tailored to target species including pekapeka, birds, and geckos.
Roost Relocation
Where removal is unavoidable, roosts can be relocated to nearby trees as a last-resort mitigation measure.
Artificial Roosts & Nest Structures
Installation of species-specific roosts and nesting structures using low-impact methods.
These approaches allow retained and declining trees to continue contributing to living ecosystems over the long term.
