Safeguarding Biodiversity Through Canopy Access and Genetic Conservation

Seed and germplasm collection is a cornerstone of ecological management, biodiversity protection, protecting whakapapa and scientific research. These living resources are essential for understanding genetic diversity, disease resistance, and species resilience—and for restoring native ecosystems across Aotearoa. 80% of Aotearoa’s vascular plants are endemic and can only be found here.

At Living Tree, our team is highly experienced in safely accessing the forest canopy to collect seeds, cones, and other germplasm from both native and exotic plants.

We work in remote, culturally and ecologically sensitive areas, and urban forest environments, always guided by best practice, biosecurity protocols, and respect for values.
